Here are my updated straightener wave tips:

• Don’t clamp tightly the whole way through. Let the iron glide, the vibration helps do the work for you.

• Pull down, not away from the head, this keeps the wave soft and natural.

• Avoid over turning on short hair. Too much = overstyled.

• Focus on a soft, rounded end. This is what gives that 2026 finish.

• Never drop the wave before it cools
Let it set so it holds

• Work at a lower heat (I use around 165–175°C)
With adjustable temperature, you can choose what’s best for the hair, you don’t need to max it out

• ALWAYS use heat protection
Less breakage = better styling, every time

That little corner of unlifted hair at the root? Y

That little corner of unlifted hair at the root? Yeah. It’s not your product. It’s your foil placement.

Most stylists place their foils on either side of the part — and that’s exactly where the problem starts.

When you follow the part, the foil sits away from the scalp because the head naturally curves. You lose that close root contact, and you end up with uneven lift, patchy sections, and that telltale square line of missed lightener we’ve all seen when the foil comes off.

Here’s what I do instead — I take my foils straight down the monohawk. 🙌

Working down the natural curve of the head means the foil hugs the scalp evenly, the lightener gets right in at the root, and when the hair is pulled back? It’s completely seamless. No lines. No patches. Just a clean, even blonde that photographs beautifully and grows out even better.

I also follow the hairline pattern intentionally — so the placement always looks natural, no matter how the hair is worn.

This is one of those techniques that sounds simple but completely changes your results once you feel it in practice.

Ever taken off your foils and noticed the root area is warm and banded —> even though the ends lifted perfectly?

You’re not imagining it. And it’s not a product problem.
Here’s what’s actually happening: when we feather the lightener softly up at the top of the foil to create that seamless root blend, there’s not much product actually sitting on that section of hair.

Because it’s feathered — not fully saturated — it dries out faster and doesn’t lift all the way through.

The ends? Fully loaded with product. They lift beautifully.

But that soft feathered section at the top never had enough lightener to do the job completely, so it’s left warm, and that’s where the banding comes from.

This is one of the most common reasons clients say their colour feels warm at the root and most stylists have no idea this is the cause.

Once you understand why it’s happening, you can fix it.
